The one thing that I always forget to give myself credit for is admiring the little steps, daily practices, and conscious actions that bring me towards my goals. After so many years of suffering, all I wanted was to feel joy again and had no idea the steps I needed to take to achieve this goal. I don't want you to think I have it all figured out by any means. My only hope is to share what I have learned along my own journey and share some of these topics and discuss the tools that have helped me navigate through trauma and come back into my own heart. Mind-set is everything, which I am sure you hear all the time, but it really is the truth behind so much. Try and go back to the basics and see what hasn’t been flowing in life. Negative self-talk to what shifts you away from aligning with your true purpose. We are our own worst critic, at least I am.
Energy is contagious. You won’t change until you change your energy. How do you you change your energy you might ask? Well first off, changing your mind-set to positive affirmations and positive self-talk will change the way you think, which is the first step. Everything in life starts with your mind-set and your actions second, which will then begin to change your energy, and eventually lead to a happier and healthier life. To make a shift, free your energy, start with getting your mind right, and then when you feel ready, take action. Alan Watts says it perfectly, “when you focus on the good, the good gets better.” If you open yourself up to these new ways of thinking, the easier it is to connect to these positive feelings. Finding your joy is what brings all of these ideas together. We can spread joy to others just by living at our highest frequency, which is what brings healing energy to those around us. Positivity and joy radiates when you are in alignment with your true self. Spreading your light is your ultimate gift to others. To be able to say that love, laugher, my personal growth, and becoming an all around radiate soul gives me the most joy in my life gives me so much gratitude for all of the events that have led me to the person I am today.
It only feels right to end this section with one of my favorite quotes from Abraham Hicks. I love everything that he shares, but when I first read this I felt it so deeply because it was at a time in my life when everything seemed to just be going wrong in every way. My soul knew that I needed to find myself before I was going to be able to feel joy and back to my old self. “Let your alignment with well-being be first and foremost, and let everything else be secondary. And not only will you have an eternally joyous journey, but everything you have ever imagined will flow effortlessly into your experience. There is nothing you cannot be or do or have, but your dominant intent is to be joyful. The doing and the having will come into alignment once you get that one down.” Finding joy and coming back to your true self is definitely not an easy task, at least for me. Once I stopped trying to use external factors, substances, situations, and other people to help me find joy in this world, was the turning point in my life when I realized I needed to dive inward. I needed to feel my pain, dive deeper into myself, and truly cope with my trauma to be able to find that feeling of joy I was searching for. I started with positive affirmations, diving deeper into my yoga practice, and started figuring out this whole meditation thing everyone kept talking about. Its hard. It takes time. Making yourself a priority is the first step. Start with your mind-set and feel your emotions. Remember not to be too hard on yourself either. There is a light at the end of the tunnel even if it may seem like there is only darkness, I promise.
