Grounding

What does it mean to be grounded?

Being “grounded” means that you're present in your body and connected with the earth. When you are grounded, you allow yourself to feel centered and balanced no matter what is going on around you. If something happens around you, it doesn’t influence you so much and you are able to feel much more peaceful and balanced in your daily life. Staying grounded is an essential skill for empaths and highly sensitive people who pick up emotions from the people and environment around them. Every time you ground yourself you decrease inflammation in the body. In fact, you can resent your biological rhythm through grounding. By walking, sitting, or sleeping in direct contact with the earth, your body becomes suffused with negative charged free electrons and equalizes to the same electric energy level as the earth.

3 reasons to try practice grounding:

  1. You’re physically uncomfortable: it can be extremely challenging to be present in your body if you’re in pain, tired, or not feeling your best. Try breathing into the discomfort and send your love to the places in your body that feel painful or uncomfortable. While allowing it to be there and be present with it, see if you can feel the peace this brings.

  2. You’re emotional: being present can also be challenging when you are experiencing intense emotions because it often brings up what you haven’t wanted to look at. When you’re not feeling well, it’s hard to ground, yet when you’re not grounded, you’re more emotionally vulnerable. Breathe with whatever emotion is present and allow it to be there. It will seem like a wave. Once you focus on it, it will seem to grow and get more intense. When you continue to allow the feeling, it will reach its highest point and then it will get smaller and disappear. Feel the peace and your new sense of balance.

  3. A part of you feels broken or out of place: grounding can be difficult when a part of you feels out of place or unloved. Healing or integrating this part of you takes time. It is important to remember that the energy and the strength of the Earth is always there to support you. Once you get through the initial resistance, grounding will help you feel more balanced and centered.

Being grounded allows us a deeper connection to the authentic self. When we practice grounding, we are also practicing a deep sense of mindfulness. Grounding is associated with an experience of clarity and wholeness, which gives us complete control of our mental and emotional self. Breathing exercises, meditation sequences, and music are found to be excellent tools in keeping this awareness within us. Staying centered allows us to have a reference point or a place to come back to when life’s challenges and emotions push us off balance. Keeping this center balanced can lead to an overall sense of emotional, psychological, and physical well-being, and ultimately, a state of bliss. Remember, never be too hard on yourself if these tools aren’t working for you. Try switching up your environment, moving your body, or connecting with those who lift your spirit. Take it one day at a time. Be patient with yourself.
